CALLING ON THE "NAME!"

CALLING UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD!

JESUS!!!

“…“... But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved...” (Acts 2:21 NLT).  “... For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”...” (Romans 10:13 NLT). “... But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved...” (Joel 2:32 NLT).

What does the phrase mean “CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD” in order to be SAVED? We know the phrase refers to SALVATION and we know SALVATION refers to “BEING” SAVED from SIN. However, what kind of CALL is necessary to be SAVED?

 “... But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved...” (Acts 2:21 NLT).  “...‘And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’...” (Acts 2:21 NASB). “... Have your sins washed away by calling on the name of the Lord...” (Acts 22:16). “... For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”...” (Romans 10:13 NLT). “... for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”...” (Romans 10:13 NASB).“... I am writing to God’s church in Corinth, to you who have been called by God to be his own holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus, just as he did for all people everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours...” (1 Corinthians 1:2 NLT).

“... Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God...” (1 Corinthians 6:11 NLT).

“...And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the Lord
Will be delivered...” (Joel 2:32 NASB). “... But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved...” (Joel 2:32 NLT).

The church often directs the lost to a sinner’s prayer in order to be saved from their sins, but very seldom do we look at the biblical meaning of simply CALLING upon the name of the LORD in order to be SAVED.

CALL in Hebrew and Greek is understood to have several meanings, but the meaning that closely relates to SALVATION is “cry out,” or “utter a loud sound,” “ask for help,” or “appeal to someone’s assistance.” To CALL on someone, in other words, is to SAY their NAME OUT LOUD, such as saying “JESUS” OUT LOUD!

To CALL on the NAME of the LORD is an AUDIBLE CALL!! Another Hebrew word for call, qara, is translated to mean “cry out with a LOUD voice.” To “cry out” by calling on the name of the Lord, is an appeal for help made directly to JESUS.

To “cry out” and appeal for help that is directed toward JESUS means the person crying out recognizes that JESUS, is the “ONE,” that can SAVE them from their SINFUL condition, problem, circumstance, or situation.

The traditional “sinner’s prayer” or “calling on the Name of Jesus” is DONE when a person MAKES a decision for SALVATION.

The “sinner’s prayer” does NOT save you, but JESUS, the WORD OF GOD does! Jesus had another name. “… His name is called The Word of God…” (Revelation 19:12-13 NASB). “... But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved...” (Joel 2:32 NLT). The gospel (the WORD; JESUS) is “…the POWER of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth (depends upon his name (Jesus, the Word))…” (Romans 1:16 KJV).  “… [The] Good News about Christ (Jesus, the Word, the NAME). It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes…” (Romans 1:16 NLT).

A lost person is MADE RIGHT with GOD by making a decision to “CALL UPON THE NAME of the LORD. “…a person is made right with God by faith [or depending upon]… Jesus Christ (the Word, the NAME)…” (Galatians 2:16 NLT).  “… We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ (by placing our dependence upon his name (JESUS, the Word)). And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are…” (Romans 3:22 NLT). “… No one is justified by the Law (self-effort or simply saying the sinner’s prayer) ... for, "THE RIGHTEOUS MAN SHALL LIVE BY FAITH (dependence upon God and his WORD; Jesus)…" (Romans 3:11 NASB).

“… His name is called The Word of God…” (Revelation 19:12-13 NASB). “... But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved...” (Joel 2:32 NLT). “... But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved...” (Acts 2:21 NLT).  “... For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”...” (Romans 10:13 NLT).

CALLING upon the NAME of JESUS is a HEARTFELT decision to appeal for HIS help in order to be SAVED. “…a person is made right with God by faith [or depending upon the WORD or calling upon the NAME]… Jesus Christ…” (Galatians 2:16 NLT).   “…For WITH THE HEART MAN BELIEVETH unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made UNTO SALVATION…” (Romans 10:10 KJV).  “…Confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and … BELIEVE IN THINE HEART that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be SAVED…” (ROMANS 10:9 KJV). “…For WHOSOEVER SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED…” (Romans 10:13 KJV).

CALLING upon the NAME of JESUS is an act of genuine, heartfelt DEPENDENCE upon him to SAVE you, because you RECOGNIZE JESUS as SAVIOR. Saying the “sinner’s prayer” is traditional, but it does NOT SAVE YOU; it is your personal decision to CALL UPON THE NAME OF JESUS that SAVES YOU!

Will EVERYONE in the WHOLE WORLD get an opportunity to CALL upon the NAME of JESUS? YES, ALL nations will have an opportunity to hear the NAME, JESUS, the WORD!! “... And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come...” (Matthew 24:14 NLT).

Does and can God SPEAK without human WORDS? Yes. HOW? “…The heavens declare (SPEAK of) the GLORY of God…” (Psalms 19:1 KJV).  “…The heavens are telling (SPEAK) of the glory of God…” (Psalms 19:1 NASB). “…God’s glory  is on tour in the skies (SPEAKING)…” (Psalms 19:1 MSG). “… The heavens declare (speak of) His righteousness, And all the peoples have seen His glory…” (Psalms 97:6 NASB).

God’s creative WORKS SPEAK and REVEAL to mankind that God EXISTS. No matter how great and well-informed intellectuals present their information; it is ALWAYS the product of the HUMAN mind. The HOLY CREATION “clearly” presents REVELATION of God to ALL mankind, which GENEROUSLY “SPEAKS” of his existence. “…Since the creation of the world, God’s  …ETERNAL POWER  …have been CLEARLY SEEN, being UNDERSTOOD FROM WHAT HAS BEEN MADE… so that ...[mankind is]... WITHOUT excuse...” (Romans 1:20 NIV).

Scientists, atheists, physics, and many documented theories have resigned to the fact that the universe had a beginning. Thus, these professionals have all rallied for the “Big Bang” cosmos, which actually supports, though NOT intentional, Genesis 1:1. “…In the beginning God created (BANG!!) the heaven and the earth …” (Genesis 1:1, 31 KJV).

AGAIN,  “…Since the creation of the world, God’s  …ETERNAL POWER  …have been CLEARLY SEEN, being UNDERSTOOD FROM WHAT HAS BEEN MADE…his POWER and Godhead (Father, Word & Holy Spirit are clearly witnessed); so that [MANKIND] are WITHOUT excuse [of his EXISTENCE]…” (Romans 1:20 NIV).

God’s EXISTENCE is revealed so POWERFULLY through his CREATION that NO human will have an EXCUSE to deny him. “…Since the creation of the world, God’s   …POWER and Godhead (Father, Word & Holy Spirit [is CLEARLY SEEN]; so that [MANKIND is] ...WITHOUT excuse [of his EXISTENCE]…” (Romans 1:20 NIV). “… The heavens declare (speak loudly of) His righteousness, And all the peoples have seen His glory…” (Psalms 97:6 NASB).

Everyone, in ALL nations can CALL UPON HIS NAME by making a decision to appeal to him for help in order to be SAVED and JESUS, the WORD “will” SAVE them!  “Believe on (depend upon, call upon, etc.) the Lord Jesus Christ (the NAME, the WORD), and thou shalt be SAVED…” (ACTS 16:31 KJV). 

God has ALWAYS established himself as SAVIOR of mankind. “.…O God of Israel, the Saviour…” (Isaiah 45:14-15 KJV). “..Ye (God’s people) are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour. I have declared, and have saved …the Lord (the word; the name, etc.), your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel …I am the Lord (the word; the name), your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King…: (Isaiah 43:10-15 KJV). “….all flesh shall know that I the LORD (the word of god; the name, etc.) am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob…” (Isaiah 49:26 KJV). “…Thou shalt know that I the LORD (the word of god; the name; etc.) am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob…” (Isaiah 60:16 KJV). “…He became their Savior…” (Isaiah 63:8 NASB). “…beside me there is no savior…” (Isaiah 43:10-15 KJV).

“… “I AM WHO I AM ’ This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name to all generations…” (Exodus 3:14-15 NASB).  “…I am  the Lord, the God of all flesh…” (Jeremiah 32:27 KJV). "… I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God…" (Revelation 1:8 NASB). “… I, the LORD … the first, and with the last. I am He...'" (Isaiah 41:4 NASB).  “...The lord is GOOD…there is none good but one, that is, God” (Nahum 1:7 & Mark 10:18 KJV). “…God is love…” (1 John 4:4-8 KJV). “…  I, the Lord, am your healer…” (Exodus 15:26). “… I AM HOLY…” (1 Peter 1:14-16 KJV).  And, “There is none holy as the Lord…” (1 Samuel 2:2 KJV). “…God is the one who provides …” (2 Corinthians 9:10-13 KJV). “… God will supply all [your need]…” (Philippians 4:19 NASB). “… [God] … will keep in perfect peace all who trust in … [him] … all whose thoughts are fixed on … [him!]” (Isaiah 26:3 NLT). “….The Lord is “my” shepherd ….” (PSALM 23:1-3 NLT). “… THE LORD … is Your rock and Your fortress, your deliverer, Your GOD, Your rock, in whom [you] … take refuge; Your shield and the horn of Your salvation, YOUR stronghold.…" (Psalms 18:3 NASB). “…Thou shalt know that I the LORD am thy Saviour …” (Isaiah 60:16 KJV). “…there is none like unto thee…” (Jeremiah 10:6 KJV).

God DOES NOT change. HE “IS” and will ALWAYS be SAVIOR!!! “…I am the Lord, I change NOT…” (Malachi 3:6 KJV). “…Jesus Christ (the WORD OF GOD) is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8 NIV). “… He (Jesus) had a name written, that no man knew … his name is called The Word of God…” (Revelation 19:12-13 NASB).

When you say JESUS is your SAVIOR; you are really SAYING “THE WORD OF GOD” is my SAVIOR. “… [The] Good News about Christ (the gospel message, the WORD alone)… It is the power (THE HOLY SPIRIT POWER) of God at work (miraculously), saving everyone who believes (TRUSTS IN OR DEPENDS UPON)…” (Romans 1:16 NLT).

 And we KNOW the WORD was God. “…In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God  (THE SAVIOR)… … (John 1:1-4 NASB). “…Thou shalt know that I the LORD am thy Saviour …” (Isaiah 60:16 KJV). “...O God of Israel, the Saviour…” (Isaiah 45:14-15 KJV). “…there is none like unto thee…” (Jeremiah 10:6 KJV).

“…SALVATION is found in no one else, for there is no other name (Jesus, the WORD OF GOD) under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved…” (Acts 4:12 NIV). “…And there is SALVATION in no one else; for there is no other name (Jesus, the WORD of GOD) under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved…” (Acts 4:12 NASB). “… “…Jesus saith unto him, I AM THE WAY, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me…” (John 14 6 KJV). “…BY GRACE have ye been saved THROUGH FAITH; and that NOT OF YOURSELVES, IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD; not of works, that no man should glory…” (Ephesians 2:8-9 ASV).  “…There is SALVATION IN NO ONE ELSE…” (Acts 4:12a NLT).  “…Thou shalt know that I the LORD am thy Saviour …” (Isaiah 60:16 KJV).

THUS, “... everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved...” (Acts 2:21 NLT).  “...‘And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’...” (Acts 2:21 NASB). “... Have your sins washed away by calling on the name of the Lord...” (Acts 22:16). “... For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”...” (Romans 10:13 NLT). “... for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”...” (Romans 10:13 NASB).“... I am writing to God’s church in Corinth, to you who have been called by God to be his own holy people.
