CHAPTER 5
PART 3
GOD CHANGES
YOUR IDENTITY
“.a new
creature…” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
*
In order to
embrace the new identity “in” Christ a response of faith to God’s truth starts
when you believe and cooperate. You can now say “I am NOT bad because I am
not condemned. I can now do all things through Christ (Philippians 4:13). Therefore, “if God says I AM holy; I AM holy”
(Hebrews 10:10, 14 & 1 Corinthians 1:30) This is how you respond by faith
to God’s truth in order to walk in your NEW identity.
The word is
Spirit and God says be “…filled with the
Spirit…” (Ephesians 5:18 KJV). Being
filled is not like filling a glass of water, but more like transforming that
glass of water where it becomes something different altogether.
LET THE WORD DWELL IN YOU OVERFLOWINGLY |
When you say “I
AM” you are either speaking of self-esteem or God-esteem. Self-esteem
describes, evaluates, and reduces oneself to their limited perception of
themselves. God-esteem describes, evaluates, and elevates
oneself to God’s unlimited perception of them.
“In” Christ, when
you say “I AM” you are allowing the Holy Spirit to transform your mental
software system regarding the “perception of self” folder. The Word of God is
so powerful it destroys every “fixed perception.”
Using “I AM”
with the Word of God when describing yourself is powerful! I AM is one of God’s
names and means the source of all being.
Being can be
defined as existence, or life, or spirit, or reality. We’ll use reality.
Reality is the way things actually are or the facts.
We are very
dependent on a reality that relies mostly on the physical realm, the rational,
the logical, what is seen, or scientific proof.
The exercise of God-given faith promotes a dependence
on the invisible reality which powerfully influences the transformation of your
“perception of self.” In addition, it
transforms your identity and your overall well-being.
The invisible or
spiritual realm is true reality. An exercise of faith helps to interact with and
experience your God-esteem by believing and cooperating with your new identity
in Christ.
You begin by
fixing your eyes“…not at the things which
are seen, but at the things which are not seen…” (2 Corinthians 4:18 KJV).
God’s name “I
AM” verifies reality and when used with His word by those “in” Christ
God-esteem will eventually replace the old perception of self.
For instance, when you said “I AM holy” based on
Hebrews 10:10; you are saying God’s holy; not just any kind of holy, but
God’s holy.
In the examples
below I AM = GOD’s and can be added to
any scripture about your new identity. Here is a list to help you get started:
1. I
AM wisdom = not just any wisdom = God’s wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:30)
2. I
AM chosen – not just any chosen – God’s chosen (Ephesians 1:11).
3. I
AM forgiven- not just any forgiveness = God’s forgiven (Ephesians 1:7).
4. I
AM light – not just any light – God’s light (Ephesians 5:8).
5. I
AM holy – God’s holy (Colossians 1:2)
6. I
AM faithful – God’s faithful ( Colossians 1:2)
7. I
AM hidden – God’s hidden (Colossians 3:3).
8. I
AM faith – God’s faith (1 Timothy 1:1, 14).
9. I
AM hope – God’s hope (1 Timothy 1:1, 14)
10.
I AM love – God love’s (1 Timothy 1:1, 14).
GOD-ESTEEM |
Every time you say I AM, link it with a biblical truth,
Believers are “in” Christ, and can actively accept their new identity by
exercising their God-given faith.
You are confessing your return to the glorious image of God
through Jesus Christ. You are boasting
in God’s finished work through Christ by saying “I AM,” which is God’s name so
that “…[You] may glory though Christ….”(Romans
15:17 KJV).
In other words, “I AM my glorious self “in” Christ!! AMEN.
God’s love has freed you from the old sinful self and its identity.
It no longer has power over your “perception of self” unless
YOU hold onto it (Romans 6:6-7).
Your “perception of self” is determined by your new spiritual
nature as a new creation in Christ Jesus, especially now that the Holy Spirit
fills you (through your spiritual balloon) (Romans 8: 9).
You are now free to live by the Spirit. Every time you walk in
your new creation you put to death the
old perception of self and are truly living the blessed life (Romans 8:10-13).
MATTHEW 5:14 |
When scripture tells you to “….let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father which is in
heaven…” Letting your light shine shows you are walking in God-esteem (Matthew 5:15-16
KJV).
God-esteem is the highest, healthiest, and most elevated
perception of self that exists. God wants to set you free from low-esteem
through biblical truth and knows if you “…hold
onto [his] teaching…” you will be free indeed (John 8:31-32 NIV).
You are restored to God’s original desired image for his
creation and “in” Christ you are now “…God’s
masterpiece [since] he has created [you] anew…” (Ephesians 2:10 NIV).
Therefore, when you
respond to your new identity by faith and walk in God-esteem you “…can [now] do the good things [God] planned
for [you] long ago….” (Ephesians 2:10 NIV).
In order to experience the YADA relationship, the exercise of
faith will enable you to be transformed by God’s love and by seeing yourself
through God’s eyes (Romans 8:29).
Your old “perception of self” interferes with how you view
your place or position in the YADA relationship.
NEW IDENTITY |
Responding by faith to God’s love, God’s esteem, and God’s
identity of you as a new creation will transform your entire life.
Responding by faith to God’s transforming love and truth is
what will change you from a caterpillar to a butterfly.
True transformation becomes evident through its fruit “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, meekness, [and] self-control…” (Galatians 5:22-23
ASV).
God says, in Christ, you are a “new creature”, then he leads you to “…walk by the Spirit…” and enables you to demonstrate that “..the Spirit of God dwell[s] in you...”
(Galatians 5:24-25, Romans 8:9-10). Do you believe it?
