SUBSTANCE OF THINGS HOPE FOR FAITH WORKS “IN” YOU
“…Now FAITH IS THE
SUBSTANCE OF THINGS HOPED FOR, the evidence of things not seen…”
(Hebrews 11:1 KJV).
*
WHICH FAITH
is the assurance of things that are hoped for? Human faith? OR the Spirit
of Faith? Which faith? I am learning
it is the Spirit of Faith that “… IS THE SUBSTANCE (assurance) OF THINGS HOPED
FOR…” (Hebrews 11:1 KJV). I am learning it is the Spirit of Faith that “…IT IS THE GIFT OF
GOD...” (EPHESIANS 2:8-9 KJV).
“…God hath dealt (GIVEN) to every man the measure of faith…” (Romans 12:3 NIV). One
of “…the fruit of the Spirit…is… FAITH…” (Galatians 5:22-23 KJV). “… [The Spirit of Faith is] NOT of yourselves: IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD...” (EPHESIANS 2:8-9 KJV).
“…Now [the Spirit of]… FAITH IS THE SUBSTANCE OF THINGS HOPED FOR, the evidence of
things not seen…” (Hebrews 11:1 KJV).
The first thing to know about
the word “substance” is that it means certainty, or guarantee, or promise, or
pledge. Substance can also refer to confidence or a reliable assurance of
something.
Faith “IS” implies that faith
exists or is real. Faith “IS” the
assurance or certainty of things expected. “…Now [divine]…FAITH IS THE SUBSTANCE OF THINGS HOPED FOR, the evidence of things not seen…”
(Hebrews 11:1 KJV).
The Spirit of Faith is a fruit of the indwelling Holy Spirit that
empowers the believer to EXPECT, from God, the promises SPOKEN “BY”
HIS WORD.
“…It is God which worketh “IN” [you]… both to
will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians
2:13 KJV). “…TO WILL (to motivate the DESIRE of faith) and TO
DO (activate the WORK of faith) of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13 KJV).
The Spirit of Faith works “IN”
you and therefore, empowers and motivates action. “…It was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT
to save his
family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things
that had never happened before (like the flood)….” (Hebrews
11 NLT).
Noah was empowered by
the Spirit of FAITH and was motivated
to do something: BUILD a boat. “…GOD IS SPIRIT…” (John 4:24 KJV).
“….God
(the SPIRIT) …warned [Noah]… about things that had never happened before….” (Hebrews
11 NLT). “…Now [the
SPIRIT of]…FAITH IS THE SUBSTANCE
(certainty) OF THINGS …” (Hebrews 11:1 KJV).
The Spirit of Faith assured N of future
blessings - to save his family - based on God’s spoken WORD to him. “…Faith cometh
(is activated or influenced) by HEARING… the WORD of God…”
(Roman 10:17 KJV). SO “…He [was EMPOWERED
and] obeyed God….” (Hebrews
11 NLT).
The Spirit of Faith worked “IN” Noah and
empowered him to do something miraculous. “…BY FAITH … Noah BUILT a boat (ark) ….” (Hebrews
11 NLT).
Noah started building the
boat (ARK) before the flood ever came. “…So
God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people …So make yourself an ark (boat) of cypress wood; …. I am GOING TO bring floodwaters on the earth
to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of
life in it. Everything on earth will perish. …But I will establish my covenant with you,
and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives
with you….Noah
did everything just as God commanded him.
(Genesis 6:9-22 NIV).
Noah had never saw a
flood, but he was CERTAIN it was coming because God’s spoken WORD to him had
warned him. The Spirit of FAITH ASSURED
Noah that his family would be saved. “…It
was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT
to save his family from the flood….” (Hebrews
11 NLT).
“… [The Spirit of]…FAITH
IS THE SUBSTANCE (certainty)
OF THINGS HOPED FOR …”
(Hebrews 11:1 KJV). Noah was empowered by the Spirit of Faith - when he HEARD
God’s WORD - to EXPECT his family would be saved from the flood.
First,
Noah HEARD the WORD of God.
Second, the Spirit of faith empowered him to built a boat. Third, the Spirit of faith
empowered and ASSURED him his family WOULD be saved.
The EMPOWERMENT of
Noah’s EXPECTATION stemmed from the Spirit
of Faith after HEARING God’s WORD. God said: “…Everything on earth will
perish. I
am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life …But I will
establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons
and your wife and your sons’ wives with you….Noah did
everything just as God commanded him…”
(Genesis 6:9-22 NIV).
“…This is
the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and
he walked faithfully with God.
Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. Now the earth was
corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. God
saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted
their ways. So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an
end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am
surely going to destroy both them and the earth. So
make yourself an ark of cypress wood; …Everything on earth will perish. I am going to bring
floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life
under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything
on earth will perish. …But I will establish my covenant with you, and
you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives
with you…Noah did everything just as God commanded him.
(Genesis 6:9-22 NIV).
Therefore,
“…It
was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT
to save his
family from the flood. He
[was activated by faith and] obeyed God ….” (Hebrews
11 NLT).
After many, many years of being empowered to DO
the WORK of faith based on God’s WORD; the flood finally came. “…And in the PROCESS of time IT CAME TO PASS…” (Genesis
4:3 KJV).
“…The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you
righteous in this generation.
…Seven days from now I
will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will
wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.” And Noah did all
that the Lord
commanded him. Noah was six hundred years old when
the floodwaters came on the earth. And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark
to escape the waters of the flood. …And after the seven
days the floodwaters came on the earth. …And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights. On that
very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and
the wives of his three sons, entered the ark. …Then the Lord shut him in…
(Genesis 7 NIV).
“…It was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God ….” (Hebrews
11 NLT). Noah was assured “BY FAITH” his
family would be saved and they were.
“…After
forty days Noah opened a window he had made in the ark
and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back
and forth until the water had dried up from the earth. …When the dove returned
to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then
Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth. He
waited seven more days and sent the dove out again, but this time it did not
return to him. By the first day of the first month of Noah’s six hundred and
first year, the water had dried up from the earth. Noah then removed the
covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry. By the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was
completely dry. Then God said to Noah, “COME OUT of the ark, you
and your wife and your sons and their wives. …So Noah came out,
together with his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives
…” (Genesis 8 NIV).
Noah DID the WORK of
Faith, not by what he SAW, but based on the WORD spoken by God. It was done to
him and his family according to the Spirit
of Faith that empowered him. “…WALK
BY [the Spirit of] FAITH...”
(2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV). “…IT SHALL BE DONE TO YOU ACCORDING TO YOUR
[indwelling Spirit of] FAITH…” (MATTHEW 9:29 NASB).
After the flood, “…God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and
increase in number and fill the earth.
….Everything that lives and moves about will be
food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything…”
(Genesis 9 NIV).
ACCORDING TO YOUR FAITH…”
(MATTHEW 9:29 NASB). Which faith? Divine faith. “…IT IS THE GIFT OF
GOD …” (Ephesians 2:8-9 ASV). “…What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though
it were not a gift?...” (1 Corinthians 4:7 NLT). Thus, if the Spirit of Faith is a gift then it is NOW
“MY” faith. “…It shall
be done to [me]… according to [my indwelling GIFT of the Spirit of] faith…"
(Matthew 9:29 NASB).
“…It was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT
to save his
family from the flood. ….” (Hebrews 11 NLT).
“…Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Roman 10:17 KJV).
What did Noah HEAR from the WORD of God? “…I am surely going to destroy …the earth. So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; …Everything on earth will perish. I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth….Noah did everything just as God commanded
him…” (Genesis 6:9-22 NIV).
After HEARING God’s
word what was Noah MOTIVATED to expect from God? “…It was BY FAITH …Noah …[EXPECTED God] to
save his family from the flood. ….” (Hebrews 11 NLT). “…I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens … Everything on earth will perish. ….BUT I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and
your sons’ wives with you...”
(Genesis 6:9-22 NIV).
Did Noah RECEIVE what
was EXPECTED from God? “…After forty days Noah opened a window he had made in the ark and
sent out a raven, and it kept flying back and forth until the water had dried
up from the earth. … Then God said to
Noah, “COME
OUT of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and their wives. …So
Noah came out, together with his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives
…” (Genesis 8 NIV).
The Spirit of Faith empowered Noah to do the
WORK of faith by working “IN” Noah. “…It is
God which worketh “IN” [you]… both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13 KJV). “…TO
WILL and TO DO of his
good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13 KJV). “…Noah did everything just as
God commanded him. (Genesis
6:9-22 NIV).
His actions were empowered and motivated by
the Spirit of FAITH which came from
HEARING the WORD; even though the flood had NOT yet happened. “…I am GOING TO BRING floodwaters on the earth…” (Genesis 6:9-22 NIV). “…It was BY FAITH ….He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before (like the flood)….” (Hebrews
11 NLT).
God’s word empowered
Noah, through the Spirit of Faith, to
be absolutely certain of what he hoped for: the SAVING of him and his family
from the flood. “…It was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT to save his family from the
flood. ….” (Hebrews
11 NLT).
Noah building a boat,
based on God’s spoken WORD ALONE, is a genuine example of how the Spirit of Faith works through
willing vessels. “…It was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT …He obeyed God ….” (Hebrews
11 NLT). “…It is God which
worketh “IN” [you]…
both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13 KJV). “…And in the PROCESS of time IT CAME TO PASS…” (Genesis
4:3 KJV).
The Spirit of Faith empowers God’s people to
do something based on the full assurance of God’s WORD and then receive what is
EXPECTED from God. “…And in
the PROCESS of time IT CAME TO
PASS…” (Genesis 4:3 KJV). “…Noah
CAME OUT, TOGETHER with his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives.
…” (Genesis 8 NIV). “…Then God blessed Noah and his sons …” (Genesis 9 NIV).
Noah’s actions
demonstrate how the Spirit of Faith
empowers you to EXPECT what God’s WORD says will happen; WILL
happen. “…Noah did “EVERYTHING” just as God commanded him.
(Genesis 6:9-22 NIV). “…And
in the PROCESS of time IT CAME
TO PASS…” (Genesis 4:3 KJV).
Through the Spirit of Faith, which comes from
HEARING God’s Word, Noah was fully assured and absolutely certain that what he
“hoped” for would undoubtedly come to pass.“…Noah did “EVERYTHING” just as God commanded him.
(Genesis 6:9-22 NIV). “…And
in the PROCESS of time IT CAME
TO PASS…” (Genesis 4:3 KJV).
Noah’s story shows that
“…[The Spirit of]…FAITH IS THE SUBSTANCE (certainty)
OF THINGS HOPED FOR
…” (Hebrews 11:1 KJV). “…It was BY FAITH that Noah
BUILT A LARGE
BOAT to save his family from the flood. ….” (Hebrews
11 NLT). “…Noah
came out, together with his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives.
…” (Genesis 8 NIV). SHOUT!!!
The Spirit of Faith empowered Noah to do
something MIRACULOUS yet “seemingly” DIFFICULT for about 120 years. Yet, “….All things [were] …work[ing]
… together for [Noah’s] good … [Noah was] called according to [God’s]…
purpose…” (ROMANS
8:28 KJV.
God’s WORK of Faith
through Noah was “NOT” to harm him, but to GIVE him an expected RESULT and a
WONDERFUL future!! “…The plans [God has]…for you….[are]… plans to prosper you and
not to harm you, plans to give you hope and
a future” (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV). “…Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart
of man, the things
which God hath prepared for them that love him” (1 Corinthians
2:9 KJV).
!
Being empowered by the Spirit of Faith RESULTED in Noah receiving
exactly what he HOPED for or EXPECTED from God. “…It was BY FAITH that Noah
BUILT A LARGE
BOAT to
SAVE HIS FAMILY from the flood. ….” (Hebrews 11 NLT). .“…Noah CAME OUT TOGETHER with his sons and his
wife and his sons’ wives. …”
(Genesis 8 NIV).
The Spirit of Faith worked “IN” Noah by
EMPOWERING his WORK of faith. “…It is
God which worketh “IN” [you]… both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13 KJV). “…the Father that
dwelleth in me, he doeth the works…” (John 14:10 KJV).“…It was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT to save his family from the flood. He OBEYED God….” (Hebrews 11
NLT).
The Spirit of Faith is a ready, willing, loyal,
committed, and available servant to God’s command and his spoken WORD of God. “…the spirit
is
[ALWAYS] willing, but
the flesh is weak…" (Matthew 26:41 NASB). “…The Lord is that Spirit…” (2 Corinthians 3:17 KJV). “…Jesus
Christ is in you…” (2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV). “…[You] CAN DO all things through Christ (through HIS
indwelling Spirit of Faith)…” (Philippians 4:13 KJV).
Therefore, the Spirit of faith is the assurance and
certainty of the things hoped for. God said: “… FAITH
IS THE SUBSTANCE (certainty) OF THINGS HOPED FOR…” (Hebrews 11:1
KJV).“…I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth...” (Genesis 6:9-22 NIV). Did God flood the
earth?
“…For forty
days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. The waters rose and
increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the
water. They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high
mountains under the entire heavens were covered. The
waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits.
Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild
animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils
died. Every living thing on the face of the earth was
wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and
the birds were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark. The
waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days…”
(Genesis 7:17-24 NIV).
Did God keep his WORD
to Noah? “…Everything on earth will perish. …BUT I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter
the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you...” (Genesis 6:9-22 NIV). “…Only Noah was
left, and those with him in the ark. …” (Genesis 7:17-24 NIV).
How the bible define
the Spirit of Faith described? “…FAITH IS THE SUSTANCE (certainty) OF THINGS HOPE
FOR …” (Hebrews 11:1 KJV).
Why was the account of
Noah’s WORK of faith recorded? “…Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition
(warning)…” (1 Corinthians 10:11 KJV). “…Whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we
through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope…” (Romans
15:4 KJV).
“…It
was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT
to save his
family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things
that had never happened before….” (Hebrews
11 NLT).
“….God
…warned [Noah]… about things that had never happened before (the flood)….” (Hebrews
11 NLT).
“…He obeyed God ….” (Hebrews
11 NLT). Noah was EMPOWERED to obey
without ever actually SEEING a flood.
“…For forty
days the flood kept coming on the earth, …Only
Noah was left, and those with him in the ark…” (Genesis 7:17-24
NIV).
“…FAITH “IS” THE SUBSTANCE (full assurance and absolute certainty) OF THINGS HOPED
FOR …” (Hebrews 11:1 KJV).
“…God
is the one who provides …” (2
Corinthians 9:10-13 KJV). “… He will supply all [your need for FAITH]…” (Philippians
4:19 NASB). “…For it is God who WORKS IN YOU…”
(Philippians 2:13 NIV). “…the Father that dwelleth in [YOU], he
doeth the works…” (John 14:10 KJV).
“…[YOU]
can do all things through
Christ which strengtheneth
[you]…” (Philippians 4:13 KJV).
