“…Now FAITH IS THE
SUBSTANCE (GUARANTEE) OF THINGS HOPED FOR, the evidence of things not seen…”
(Hebrews 11:1 KJV).
*
WHICH FAITH
is the assurance of things that are hoped for? My human faith? My indwelling faith? Which
faith? Indwelling Faith “… IS THE
SUBSTANCE (guarantee) OF THINGS HOPED FOR…” (Hebrews 11:1 KJV). “…IT IS THE GIFT OF
GOD...” (EPHESIANS 2:8-9 KJV). “…God
hath dealt (GIVEN) to every man (woman) the
measure of faith…” (Romans 12:3 NIV). One
of “…the fruit of the Spirit…is… FAITH…” (Galatians 5:22-23 KJV). “… NOT of yourselves:
IT IS THE
GIFT OF GOD...” (EPHESIANS
2:8-9 KJV).
“…Now [indwelling]… FAITH IS THE SUBSTANCE OF THINGS HOPED FOR, the evidence of
things not seen…” (Hebrews 11:1 KJV).
The first thing to know about
the word “substance” is that it means certainty, or guarantee, or promise, or
pledge. Substance can also refer to confidence or a reliable assurance of
something.
Faith “IS” implies that faith
exists or is real. Faith “IS” the
assurance or certainty of things expected. “…Now [divine]…FAITH IS THE SUBSTANCE OF THINGS HOPED FOR, the evidence of things not seen…”
(Hebrews 11:1 KJV).
Indwelling faith is an inner POWER that assures the believer that what he or she HOPES for "WILL" come to pass. “…it is God which worketh “IN” [you]… both to
will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians
2:13 KJV). “…TO WILL (have faith) and TO DO (live by faith)
of his good pleasure”
(Philippians 2:13 KJV).
Indwelling faith works “IN” you and
thus empowers and inspires action. “…It was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT
to save his
family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things
that had never happened before (like the flood)….” (Hebrews
11 NLT).
“….God
…warned [Noah]… about things that had never happened before….” (Hebrews
11 NLT). “…Now [indwelling]…FAITH
IS THE SUBSTANCE (guarantee)
OF THINGS HOPED FOR …” (Hebrews 11:1 KJV).
Noah’s indwelling faith
assured him of future blessings - to save his family - based on God’s Word to
him. Thus “…He
obeyed God….” (Hebrews 11 NLT).
Indwelling faith worked
“IN” Noah and empowered him to do something miraculous. “…It was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT a boat (ark) ….”
(Hebrews 11 NLT).
Noah started building the
boat (ARK) before the flood ever came. “…So
God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people …So make yourself an ark (boat) of cypress wood; …. I am GOING TO bring floodwaters on the earth
to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of
life in it. Everything on earth will perish. …But I will establish my covenant with you,
and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives
with you….Noah
did everything just as God commanded him.
(Genesis 6:9-22 NIV).
Noah had never seen a
flood, but he knew it was coming because God had warned him. He was assured, by indwelling faith, his family would be saved. “…It
was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT
to save his
family from the flood….” (Hebrews 11 NLT).
“…Now [indwelling]…FAITH
IS THE SUBSTANCE (gurantee)
OF THINGS HOPED FOR …”
(Hebrews 11:1 KJV). Noah was empowered, by HEARING God’s WORD to HOPE his
family would be saved from the flood.
Noah HEARD the WORD of
God. Indwelling faith empowered and ASSURED him his family WOULD be saved. The
EMPOWERMENT of Noah’s indwelling faith was God’s Word. God said: “…Everything
on earth will perish. I
am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life …But I will
establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons
and your wife and your sons’ wives with you….Noah did everything just as
God commanded him…”
(Genesis 6:9-22 NIV).
“…This is
the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and
he walked faithfully with God.
Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. Now the earth was
corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. God
saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted
their ways. So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an
end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am
surely going to destroy both them and the earth. So
make yourself an ark of cypress wood; …Everything on earth will perish. I am going to bring
floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life
under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything
on earth will perish. …But I will establish my covenant with you, and
you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives
with you…Noah did everything just as God commanded him.
(Genesis 6:9-22 NIV).
“…It was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God ….” (Hebrews
11 NLT).
After many years (120) of being empowered to live by
faith in God’s word; the flood finally came. “…And in the PROCESS of time IT CAME TO PASS…” (Genesis
4:3 KJV).
“…The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you
righteous in this generation.
…Seven days from now I
will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will
wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.” And Noah did all
that the Lord commanded
him. Noah was six hundred years old when the
floodwaters came on the earth. And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark
to escape the waters of the flood. …And after the seven
days the floodwaters came on the earth. …And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights. On that
very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and
the wives of his three sons, entered the ark. …Then the Lord shut him in…
(Genesis 7 NIV).
“…It was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God ….” (Hebrews
11 NLT). Noah was assured “BY FAITH” his
family would be saved and they were.
“…After
forty days Noah opened a window he had made in the ark
and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back
and forth until the water had dried up from the earth. …When the dove returned
to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then
Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth. He
waited seven more days and sent the dove out again, but this time it did not
return to him. By the first day of the first month of Noah’s six hundred and
first year, the water had dried up from the earth. Noah then removed the
covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry. By the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was
completely dry. Then God said to Noah, “COME OUT of the ark, you
and your wife and your sons and their wives. …So Noah came out,
together with his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives
…” (Genesis 8 NIV).
Noah walked by indwelling faith,
not by what he saw. It was done to him and his family according to his indwelling faith.
“…WALK BY FAITH...” (2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV). “…IT
SHALL BE DONE TO YOU ACCORDING TO YOUR FAITH…” (MATTHEW 9:29 NASB).
After the flood, “…God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and
increase in number and fill the earth.
….Everything that lives and moves about will be
food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything…”
(Genesis 9 NIV).
ACCORDING TO YOUR FAITH…”
(MATTHEW 9:29 NASB). Which faith? Indwelling faith. “…IT IS THE GIFT OF
GOD …” (Ephesians 2:8-9 ASV). “…What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though
it were not a gift?...” (1 Corinthians 4:7 NLT). Thus, if
divine faith is a gift then it is “MY”
faith. “…It shall be done to you according to your
(my gifted, indwelling) faith…" (Matthew 9:29 NASB).
“…It was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT
to save his
family from the flood. ….” (Hebrews 11 NLT).
“…Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Roman 10:17 KJV).
What did Noah HEAR God warn him about? “…I am surely going to destroy …the earth. So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; …Everything on earth will perish. I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth….Noah did everything just as God comanded
him. (Genesis 6:9-22 NIV).
What did Noah HEAR
God's WORD SAY? “…I am going to bring
floodwaters on the earth
to destroy all life under the heavens … Everything
on earth will perish. ….BUT I
will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your
sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you...”
(Genesis 6:9-22 NIV).
Was Noah’s family saved
from the flood? “…After
forty days Noah opened a window he had made in the ark
and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back
and forth until the water had dried up from the earth. … Then God said to Noah,
“COME OUT of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and
their wives. …So Noah came out, together with his sons and his wife and his
sons’ wives …”
(Genesis 8 NIV).
Indwelling faith worked
“IN” Noah. “…it is God which
worketh “IN” [you]…
both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13 KJV). “…TO
WILL and TO DO of his
good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13 KJV). Indwelling faith empowered Noah to build a boat. “…Noah
did everything just as God comanded him. (Genesis 6:9-22 NIV).
His actions were empowered and inspired by
FAITH which came from HEARING the WORD of God; even though the flood had NOT yet happened.
“…I am GOING TO BRING floodwaters on the earth…” (Genesis 6:9-22 NIV).
God’s WORD empowered
Noah, by FAITH, to be absolutely certain of what he hoped for: the salvation of him and
his family. “…It was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT to save his family from the flood. ….”
(Hebrews 11 NLT).
Noah building a boat,
based on God’s word ALONE, was a genuine example of how divine faith works
through willing vessels. “…It was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT …He obeyed God ….” (Hebrews
11 NLT). “…it is God which
worketh “IN” [you]…
both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13 KJV). “…And in the PROCESS of time IT CAME TO PASS…” (Genesis
4:3 KJV).
Indwelling faith empowers
God’s people to do something based on the full assurance of God’s Word and then
receive what is expected from God. “…And in the PROCESS of time IT
CAME TO PASS…” (Genesis 4:3 KJV). “…Noah CAME OUT, TOGETHER with his sons and his wife and his
sons’ wives. …” (Genesis 8 NIV). “…Then God blessed
Noah and his sons …”
(Genesis 9 NIV).
Noah’s actions
demonstrate how faith empowers you to "DO" what God’s Word commands. . “…Noah “DID”
everything just as God comanded him…” (Genesis 6:9-22 NIV). “…it is God which worketh “IN” [you]… both to
will and TO DO of his good pleasure” (Philippians
2:13 KJV).
Through indwelling faith,
which comes from HEARING God’s Word, Noah was fully assured and convinced that
what he “hoped” for would undoubtedly come to pass. . “…Noah did
“EVERYTHING” just as God comanded him.
(Genesis 6:9-22 NIV). “…And
in the PROCESS of time IT CAME
TO PASS…” (Genesis 4:3 KJV).
Noah’s story shows that
“…[indwelling]…FAITH IS THE SUBSTANCE (certainty) OF THINGS HOPE FOR …” (Hebrews 11:1
KJV). “…It was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT to save his family from the flood. ….”
(Hebrews 11 NLT). “…Noah
came out, together with his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives.
…” (Genesis 8 NIV).
Indwelling faith empowered
Noah to do what God commanded him to do. Walking by indwelling faith resulted in Noah
receiving EXACTLY what he HOPED for. “…It
was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT
to SAVE HIS
FAMILY from the flood. ….” (Hebrews 11 NLT). .“…Noah CAME OUT TOGETHER with his sons and his
wife and his sons’ wives. …”
(Genesis 8 NIV).
INDWELLING faith worked
“IN” Noah and was the main enabler of his obedience. “…it is God which worketh “IN” [you]… both to
will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians
2:13 KJV). “…It
was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT
to save his
family from the flood. He
OBEYED God….” (Hebrews 11 NLT).
The Word of God FUELS indwelling faith. Indwelling faith is the assurance of the things hoped for.
God said: “…I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth...” (Genesis 6:9-22 NIV). Did God flood the
earth?
“…For forty
days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. The waters rose and
increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the
water. They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high
mountains under the entire heavens were covered. The
waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits.
Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild
animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils
died. Every living thing on the face of the earth was
wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and
the birds were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark. The
waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days…”
(Genesis 7:17-24 NIV).
Did God keep his WORD
to Noah? “…Everything on earth will perish. …BUT I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter
the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you...” (Genesis 6:9-22 NIV). “…Only Noah was
left, and those with him in the ark. …” (Genesis 7:17-24 NIV).
How is INDWELLING faith
described? “…FAITH IS THE SUBSTANCE (certainty) OF THINGS HOPE FOR …” (Hebrews 11:1
KJV).
Why was the account of
Noah’s faith recorded? “…Now
all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition (warning)…” (1 Corinthians
10:11 KJV). “…Whatsoever
things were written aforetime were
written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the
scriptures might have hope…” (Romans 15:4 KJV).
“…It
was BY FAITH that Noah BUILT A LARGE BOAT
to save his
family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things
that had never happened before….” (Hebrews
11 NLT).
“….God
…warned [Noah]… about things that had never happened before (the flood)….” (Hebrews
11 NLT).
“…He obeyed (by indwelling faith) God ….” (Hebrews
11 NLT). Noah obeyed (by empowered faith) without ever SEEING
a flood.
“…For forty
days the flood kept coming on the earth, …Only
Noah was left, and those with him in the ark…” (Genesis 7:17-24
NIV).
“…FAITH IS THE
SUBSTANCE (absolute assurance, certainty) OF THINGS HOPED FOR …”
(Hebrews 11:1 KJV).
