HOSETTA: HE CHOOSE; CHAPTER 10

CHAPTER 10

HOSETTA: HE CHOSE

“… [YOU CHOOSE]... this day whom ye will serve….” (Joshua 24:15 KJV).

“… One sinner destroy[ed]… much good...” (Ecclesiastes 9:18 NASB).

“… I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore [YOU]…choose life” (Deuteronomy 30:19 KJV). “…Choose LIFE” (Deuteronomy 30:19 KJV).

“…Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedilythe HEART of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil [by choice].” (Ecclesiastes 8:11 KJV).

                                        *

Hosetta wrote in her journal “...The God-given ability to make choices is an action of the will and its powerful. A CHOICE is a course of action that is selected among two or more options. A CHOICE is not something that is FORCED upon the  human “will,” but something that is a voluntary action of the will...”

George had made a choice and it wasn’t forced upon him. He couldn’t blame her. He couldn’t blame anyone else. He couldn’t blame God. HE, on his “own” volition, CHOSE.

Hosetta’s mind was clear. Nobody had a gun to George’s head and nobody could force his decisions. He is a GROWN man. He willfully and voluntarily, made a CHOICE to go his OWN way. It was what it was. George was George.  “… [YOU CHOOSE]... this day whom ye will serve….” (Joshua 24:15 KJV).

George had EVERY right to CHOOSE the path he wanted to travel, but he had no CONTROL over the consequences of those choices or the EVENTS that may follow. Hosetta’s opinion of him was changed FOREVER.

George’s decision spoke volumes to Hosetta. She “let him go” by conceding to HIS CHOICE. "HE" wanted a divorce; she didn’t. "HE" chose the path of divorce, she didn’t.

George got what he asked for. She gave a concession speech, through her actions, by giving him over to what he wanted. She wished him well and hoped he finally finds what he is looking for.

George’s issues had dominated the relationship, directly or inadvertently, for nearly the whole 30+ years. Now he was FREE to do as he pleased without being burdened with her, rightful, expectations as his wife and companion.

He could do his thing guilt free, without shame, and without worrying about the responsibility of a covenant wife.

Hosetta became content and resigned to giving him over to the life he was always longing for anyway. The way he’d treated her, during the last four years, placed him, as her husband, in the history book of her life.

He denied and ignored her feelings, during the most serious and critical time of her life. In her opinion, there was NO coming back, as her husband, from that kind of uncalled for mistreatment. Her needs could not be negated, this time, and the doctors told her she HAD to be selfish with her recovery.

The doctor’s had explained her condition and prognosis, thoroughly, to George, but he still CHOSE to treat her like she had SOMEHOW made HIM a victim and he’d had the brain bleed.

George didn’t have a clue to what she was experiencing, emotionally, and he didn’t ask or “seem” to care.

George was thoroughly informed on the kind of care she would need after her surgery. George didn’t bother to notice her struggle over her new reality. He didn’t bother to notice his rejection of her, during the most critical time of her healing, added to the problem.

George was selfish and she no longer had the cognitive energy to stand up against his selfishness anymore; it was too, too overbearing for her now.

Hosetta needed to be loved, assisted, and cared for and she couldn’t ignore that truth. During the talks with George, the few that they had, while she was in Scottsdale recovering, she had tried to share her struggles, but they went ignored, invalidated or negated.

She had NO illusions about George anymore and his CHARACTER and CONDUCT was like a flashing NEON sign saying: "...I'm done..." "...I'm moving on..." His behavior was undoubtedly, selfish and disrespectful, to her.

No matter how he declared, to those that listened, that he was the victim; Hosetta knew the truth and HE knew “what” SHE knew.

Hosetta had needs, which she couldn’t ignore, even if George could. He CHOSE to negate and invalidate her needs, even the very basic ones and she lost ALL respect for George as a husband and as a so-called “carnally good” and ethical man.

Their marriage, friendship, companionship, and covenant vows laid at the altar of George’s selfishness. He could blame her and everyone else for what had happened between them, but George was the one standing on center stage with HIS CHOICE in his hands.

If he was honest, however, he would have to admit his "other life" was the primary reason for the demise of their covenant relationship,

Hosetta had believed in the “core” decency of George SO LONG it took a minute to accept WHO he had become. She now knew, without a doubt, he was NOT the so-called GIANT man of FAITH that he’d presented himself to be in the beginning. He may had acted ethical, over the years, but he was NOT righteous. His choice and his conduct had PROVED WHO he really was at the core. “...Your love for one another will PROVE to the world that you are my disciples...” (John 13:35 NLT).

His behavior and attitude, toward her, showed no evidence of the indwelling FRUIT of the Holy Spirit The bible says: “…The fruit of the Spirit is LOVE, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance…” (Galatians 5:22-23 KJV). “…Ye shall know them by their fruits…” (Matthew 7:16 KJV). "My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so PROVE to be My disciples” (John 15:8 NIV).

Hosetta wrote in her journal: The bible also says this about God's people:“…If you love me, you will (not might, maybe, sometimes, when I feel like it, or occasional, etc.) keep my commandments” (John 14:15). However, “…My people would not listen to me. They kept doing whatever they wanted” (Jeremiah 7:24 NLT). … The people replied, “Don’t waste your breath. We will continue to live as we want to, stubbornly following our own evil desires” (JEREMIAH 18:12 NLT). “…Thus saith the Lord; ‘Cursed be the MAN (or woman) ... whose HEART departeth from the Lord” (Jeremiah 17:5 KJV) Thus, “…They (MY PEOPLE) broke [THEIR] ... covenant [WITH ME], though I loved them as a husband loves his wife,” says the Lord…” (Jeremiah 31:32 NASB).

“... Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness ...  the one who practices sin is of the devil ...  No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of GOD..” (1 John 3:7-10 NASB).

“... Now the deeds (fruits) of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,  idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God...” (Galatians 5:19-21 NASB).

“…Ye shall know them by their fruits…” (Matthew 7:16 KJV).
“... I forewarn you ... that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God...” (Galatians 5:19-21 NASB).

“...God SEES NOT as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD LOOKS AT THE HEART”(1 Samuel 16:7 NASB). “…No one needed… to tell him (God) about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart” (John 2:24-25 NLT). “…[The] ...Lord (God), which knowest the hearts of all men…” (Acts 1:24 KJV). “… He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth. The Lord examines both the righteous and the wicked…” (Psalm 11:4-5 NLT).

Hosetta dated her entry and closed her journal for the day.

The indwelling Holy Spirit was teaching Hosetta how to SEE the difference between DOING right and BEING right. The bible talks about how people ACT right, but they reject the indwelling POWER that can actually make them BECOME right. “… They will act religious, BUT they will reject the power that could make them...[truly]... godly. Stay away from people like that!” (2 Timothy 3:5 NLT). “…Human effort (ethical and moral behavior) accomplishes nothing….” (John 6:63 NLT).

Hosetta pondered upon God's word. She realized, it wasn’t what George DID for her or against her during the critical part of her recovery, that changed her perspective of him, but it was WHO he was, in the process. Her blinders had come completely off. The bible made her SEE George in a new light and she could no longer make excuses for HIM. “…In this world … [God’s people] … are LIKE JESUS…” (1 John 4:17 NIV). “….as [God has]… loved [his people]… [they will] …love one another .” (John 13:34 ASV).  every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love…” (1 John 4:4-8 KJV).

George CHOSE what "HE" WANTED. He did the best he could, based on the limitations of his ethical behavior. No matter how RIGHT a person tries to ACT; they can ONLY BECOME righteous through the indwelling Holy Spirit. “…Human effort (ethical and moral behavior) accomplishes nothing….” (John 6:63 NLT). “… I want to do what is right, but I can’tI [am] …a slave to the sin that is … within me (Romans 7:14-25 NLT).

Hosetta wrote in her journal again: UNLESS George or anyone else, including herself, chooses to trust in and depend upon the “power” of the INDWELLING HOLY SPIRIT to empower them to TRANSFORM their MINDS, it WON’T be transformed. “… Be transformed by the renewing of your mind (the renewing of the mind will empower you to put demands upon the old mindset and take authority over the flesh)….” (Romans 12:2 KJV). Otherwise, “….you [will become] ... slaves of the one you obey (follow)…” (Romans 6:16 NIV). Therefore, “... discipline [your] ... body and make it [your]... slave...” (1 Corinthians 9:27 NASB). “…The sinful nature is always hostile to God (therefore, the old mindset, influenced by the sinful nature, is also hostile to God). It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature (through the old mindset) can never please God. But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you …” (Romans 8:1-14 NLT).

“… (Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the [indwelling Holy] ... Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God (reunited with God, the Holy Spirit). The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. …” (Romans 8:1-14 NLT).

“…Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do (through the dictates of your old mindset) what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit (the indwelling Holy Spirit) you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God (the indwelling Holy Spirit) are children of God…” (Romans 8:1-14 NLT).

“…Who will free me from this life that is dominated by (the old mindset which is affected and polluted by) SIN? (Romans 7:14-25 NLT). “… The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord (the indwelling Holy Spirit too)…” (Romans 7:14-25 NLT).

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13 KJV).

“…. if any man be in Christ, he is a NEW creature: old things are passed away; behold, ALL things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV). Christ liveth in [you]…” (Galatians 2:20 KJV). “….OLD THINGS (life without the indwelling Holy Spirit) are passed…” (2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV). ... It is God (the indwelling Holy Spirit) which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13 KJV). “… the God of peace… that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in [you, through the indwelling Holy Spirit]… what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ…” (Hebrews 13:20-21 NIV).

She dated her new entry.

The indwelling Holy Spirit empowers, his people, to live up to their proclamations, but apart from the Holy Spirit they can’t do right. Without the indwelling Holy Spirit, George couldn’t DO RIGHT either.

Hosetta wrote, a third time,  in her journal: “…In this world … [God’s people] … are LIKE JESUS…” (1 John 4:17 NIV). “….as [God has]… loved [his people]… [they will] …love one another ….” (John 13:34 ASV).  “…If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person IS A LIAR and is not living in the truth…” (1 John 2:4 NLT).  “…I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t….I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. (Romans 7:14-25 NLT).

“…The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance…” (Galatians 5:22-23 KJV)."....The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in [y]our lives …” (Galatians 5 NLT).…God ...does the work IN AND THROUGH all of us who are his (redeemed people)… (1 Corinthians 12:4-11 NLT). “…I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13 KJV).

George wasn't living up to his GIANT FAITH that he’d professed for over 40+ years. “…Ye shall know them by their fruits…” (Matthew 7:16 KJV).

He talked the talk, but when it came to displaying the “fruit of the spirit” George didn’t witness any fruit nor did he live up to the Word of God he’d claimed to follow. “…Ye shall know them by their fruits…” (Matthew 7:16 KJV).

Hosetta dated her entry.

While Hosetta was in the coma in October of 2014, she was spending quality time with God, the Holy Spirit. God, the Holy Spirit was in the coma with her. God, was true to his word, he will NEVER leave you, no matter where you are, even in a coma. The bible said: “...Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me .Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee...” (Psalms 139:7-12 KJV).

…God has said “NEVER WILL I LEAVE YOU; NEVER WILL I FORSAKE YOU…” (Hebrews 13:5 NIV).

Hosetta’s experience, in the coma, empowered her to distinguish between someone walking in the flesh and walking in the Spirit.

She had become enlightened, in a new way, and her spiritual blinders had been removed. She became keenly aware of how God’s presence, his goodness, and his power worked “in” and “through” HIS PEOPLE just like the bible says HE DOES. “…God ...does the work IN AND THROUGH all of us who are his (people)… (1 Corinthians 12:4-11 NLT).

Her physical, mental, emotional state needed to heal from the traumatic impact her brain bleed had on her body, but within her, the indwelling Holy Spirit was ALIVE and WELL. “...the ...[indwelling]... SPIRIT is willing, but the flesh is weak...” (Matthew 26:41 NASB).

This new gift of  "greater" discernment was upon her. She was suddenly aware of the difference between spiritual fruit and human effort. She could clearly distinguish between the two. She was able to appraise one’s character by judging it against the spiritual fruit PRODUCED by the Holy Spirit. “…Ye shall know them by their fruits…” (Matthew 7:16 KJV).

Hosetta had been sitting with the Holy Spirit, in the coma, for two weeks. She had been sitting "IN" his HOLY presence and "SURROUNDED" by his HOLY presence. It transformed her even more and when she came to full consciousness again, she could SEE and discern God’s presence, his goodness, and his power in the lives of others, especially George.

God began to REVEAL himself to her and it felt like a tsunami had over taken her spiritual life. Three years later, Hosetta had written over 70+ inspirational books sharing her revelation knowledge of God, the Holy Spirit.

When Hosetta left the hospital in December of 2014, she had no idea what she going home to. She expected everything to be the same, but something, within her and in the atmosphere of her life, had drastically changed.

She was empowered to recognize, distinguish, and react to the influence that had come into her home It was revealed through George’s character and conduct. Her indwelling Spirit was vigilant about protecting her from the unchained wickedness that had gotten into her home and her husband.

Hosetta was glad to be home. She couldn’t really walk yet, so she scooted around the wooden floor or used her walker to decorate the Christmas tree. Christmas, as long as she could remember, had always been her favorite holiday. She loved the decorations more than getting presents.

Hosetta came home in December of 2014 and her mother, Louisa Benson, came to Virginia, to help care for her, in January 2015.

George expressed to Hosetta that when her mother arrived she could take her to get her nails and hair done.

George and Hosetta’s mother had gotten along, fairly well, for over 30+ years. George boasted, about his mother-in-law with friends. When they first met, her grandparents were moving into a new place and her family was having a house warming celebration. George said, “....Geesh, your family celebrate everything...”

Hosetta’s mother overheard  him and after they married, she would send him cards for ground hog’s day,  flag day, election day, or some other odd day, just to tease him.

In 2015 things were fine between the two of them until they had a difference of opinion regarding Hosetta’s therapeutic care. George wanted her to go to therapy three times a week. Hosetta didn’t want to come that often and promised she would do her exercise at home. She was requesting to come once a week instead. George negated her wishes, but her mother suggested he listen to Hosetta.

George said, “...I think I know MY wife...” and her mother said, “...I think I know MY daughter...” Hosetta THOUGHT, “...I think I know MYSELF...” Nonetheless the battle was on between the two of them.

She was WATCHING George's behavior and she could hear her Savior's words: “…The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance…” (Galatians 5:22-23 KJV)."....The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in [y]our lives …” (Galatians 5 NLT).…God ...does the work IN AND THROUGH all of us who are his (REDEEMED people)… (1 Corinthians 12:4-11 NLT). “…Ye shall know them by their fruits…” (Matthew 7:16 KJV).

Hosetta PAID some, but very little ATTENTION to what George SAID. She DID, however, WATCH him closely and PAID attention to his character. Suddenly, what she cared about the most, was WHO George WAS in this intense situation.

Hosetta watched George, with her eyes and ears, dishonor her mother. She watched him kick her  76 year old mother and her things out of the guest room. She watched him cuss crassly in front of her. She watched him call the police to find out how he could throw her out of the house. She watched him throw her mother's food away she’d bought to help with Hosetta’s new dietary needs. She watched him cut off her mother's cell phone without warning. She watched him play loud music so her mother couldn’t sleep at night. She watched him threatened her mother, walk around in his underwear in front of her, and he argued with Hosetta right in front of her mother’s face. “...Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord the God giveth thee...” (Exodus 20:12 KJV).

Who was this man and what had he done with George?

Hosetta asked George was there a statute of limitation on “honoring parents” and he said “yes” when they act the way her mother’s was acting. Again, his behavior, was not “his” responsibility, but, as usual, it was someone else’s fault.

Her mother did not have a gun to George’s head. She did not FORCE him to behave or respond to her the way he did. George was a 55+ year old, GROWN man, who claimed to be walking with God. He had CHOICES and he had the FREEDOM to make the right ones or the wrong ones. HE CHOOSE.

What Hosetta didn’t know until later is that George and her mother was really mad about something else. Her mother told George about a NUDE picture, she’d received in the mail, of him and someone else, who was also nude, before Hosetta’s brain bleed. It had the acronyms on it HOTY (Husband Of The Year). Louisa wanted to know if Hosetta had received one too. Her mother was wondering whether that was the catalyst behind her brain bleed.

Louisa Benson had the SPOTLIGHT on George's adulterous behavior and he DIDN'T like it. He wanted her OUT of "his" house and their lives no matter what it cost, no matter what lies he had to tell, or no matter what he had to do! He was EXPOSED and Hosetta wasn't the only one LOOKING at his conduct!

Hosetta and George had talked about his issues, to their families, years before. Both families knew about his addiction, but NOT the depth or details of it. When her mother got the picture, she knew, what George was STILL doing to her daughter.

The battle between them continued. George was even trying to get Hosetta to make her mother leave and CHOOSE between them. Hosetta told George it wasn’t fair to ask her to choose between the two of them. Hosetta felt she needed her mother at a time like this just like she needed him.

George agreed and apologized, but nonetheless, he kicked her mother out of the guest room and he moved into the guest room himself.

The other four bedrooms were occupied and she told her mother where to get one of their blow up beds, but  eventually George put holes in all the blow up beds and hid them.

When she tried to talk to George about how he was treating her mother, they argued. Her mother, would be in the background, pleading with them to stop. Hosetta had to be very careful about elevating her blood pressure over 160, because it put her in danger of having another brain bleed.

During the conflict between her mother and George, her pressure was elevated every time she went to therapy. And it finally went over 160 when George informed her, on a Sunday morning, that Mother Jarrett had been in the hospital since Friday. Hosetta slept so much, she didn’t get to visit Mother Jarrett every day like she used to.

Hosetta got highly upset and wanted to see Mother Jarrett right away. George or the hospital staff was not able to calm Mother Jarrett down or get her to cooperate. After Hosetta’s visit Mother Jarrett got better and came home. However, Hosetta had learned that Mother Jarrett HAD NOT been in the hospital since that Friday, but had, in fact, only came in LATE Saturday night. Why had George lied and upset up like that? “…Ye shall know them by their fruits…” (Matthew 7:16 KJV).

In the MIDST of all of this she SAW George. She was WATCHING him. There is NO WAY he could truly know God without showing some evidence of spiritual fruit, especially the spiritual fruit of love. What did the bible say?every one that loveth ... knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love…” (1 John 4:4-8 KJV). Maya Angelou said if someone SHOWS you WHO they are, believe them!

What were those scriptures she'd written in her journal the other day? “...love one another as I have loved you...” (John 13:34) “…If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person IS A LIAR and is not living in the truth…” (1 John 2:4 NLT).

Hosetta thought about how God took Israel through the wilderness so “they” would what was in their OWN hearts. Hosetta felt like she was in the wilderness with George, right then, and she SAW what was in his heart through his conduct! Deuteronomy 8:2 said: “…remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no…” (KJV). This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me…” (Mark 7:6 KJV).

Whether she liked it or not; whether she agreed with it or not, whether she wanted to believe it or not; George's CONDUCT revealed NO spiritual fruit. Sometimes there is NO need for excuses, justifications, or explanations. Sometimes; it is what it is

Hosetta concluded her meditations with these thoughts: You don’t ACT like the company you keep; you BECOME like the company you keep! If you spent time with the WISE you BECOME wise. If you spent time with the CORRUPT you BECOME corrupt (Proverbs 13:20, I Corinthians 15:33).

Who had George been spending time with?

George was so ethical, over the years, that it made Hosetta hold out for the “goodness,” she thought, was certainly hidden within his heart. He was so sweet LOOKING, on the outside, with cute dimples too, but he had FOOLED her. His FALSE charm was so good and his ethical skills were even better. “ … by good words and fair speeches …[ethical (not righteous) people] … deceive the hearts of the simple…” (Romans 16:18 KJV).

In addition George KNEW the Word, but it was EVIDENT he didn’t KNOW God. She SAW the evidence. It is what it is.“…Ye shall know them by their fruits…” (Matthew 7:16 KJV).

…Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love…” (1 John 4:4-8 KJV). “…In this world … [God’s people] … are LIKE JESUS…” (1 John 4:17 NIV). “…If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person IS A LIAR and is not living in the truth…” (1 John 2:4 NLT).

Hosetta NEEDED to engage with spiritual fruit and NOT simply human behavior. Her mother was almost 80 years old and she was recovering from a major surgery, but George chose, this critical time, in her life to let his sinful nature RULE. Hosetta heard the doctor’s voice “...you must be selfish about your healing, Mrs. Jarrett..”

She did NOT want another brain bleed. She became extremely concerned about her mother’s health and safety too and her own.

She NEEDED to RECOVER without unnecessary STRESS. If something happened, she wouldn’t be able to help her mother or herself. Hosetta prayed. She told George she was going to Scottsdale to recover. He said okay and that he would pay for it, but he didn’t.

On Wednesday nights, George would go into his other world and participate in his double life. He didn’t “seem” to care that she was home recovering, or that Mother Jarrett needed focused attention and care, or that her mother was there witnessing his unethical behavior toward her.

Hosetta had no money and her mother had no money either, but she felt the unction from the Holy Spirit to leave RIGHT NOW and go recover in Scottsdale. Her two BEST family friends, Leah and Kory Wilkinson, confirmed it!

Hosetta knew, as was his ROUTINE, George would not return home until Thursday afternoon. He was a creature of HABIT! She thought, in order to remove any possibility of an altercation, they needed to leave before George returned to the house. Hosetta and her Mother left with no money,

God helped them.  Two churches gave them a total of $700.00 and a relative said God told her to buy them two box car, train tickets ($1,200) to Arizona. The doctor didn’t release her to fly, but he said she could ride the train.

Hosetta cried all the way down the stairs, all the way down their driveway, all the way on the freeway, and all the way to Arizona. She knew, in her spirit, her life had changed forever.

Oscar happened to be stationed, in Washington DC, at the time and they were able go over and spent some time with him, his wife, and children before they left.

Oscar, her loving son. She will never forget the extreme love and care he showed her during her ordeal and every day since. He still watches over her with tender loving care. Her heart sings “thank you, Jesus for my son!!”

George, with his false charm, said he wasn’t upset with her, just her mother. Yet he had taken it out on her too.

Because she readily received the love her mother gave and accepted her care George accused her of choosing her over him.

She tried to explain to George, there is no choice, her mother was one kind of love and he was another, but of course, he didn’t listen. George started calling Hosetta, Mrs. Benson, which was her mother’s last name.

George said he was calling her Mrs. Benson because Hosetta was acting like her mother was her husband and not him.

George also told her she was “...acting like a baby, at her age...” who needs their “...mommy...”

Once she told George her grandmother had told her never to break a black man’s heart. When all this was happening, he said “...you should have listened to your grandmother...” It sounded like a threat to Hosetta.

After his indirect threat, George stopped taking Hosetta to therapy, stopped going to church with her, put a refrigerator in his music room to store food for himself and not her, started locking doors in the house, and moved into the guest room.

Hosetta finally said, to him, if other men, in the family, were present, he wouldn’t be treating her and her mother like this. George said, “...yes I would. And if Oscar drives over here I am going to shoot him...” Hosetta didn’t know who this man was, but it wasn’t “her George.” “…Ye shall know them by their fruits…” (Matthew 7:16 KJV).

It became simple really, Hosetta needed to recover and she couldn’t in Virginia. Hosetta hadn’t just had a cold, but she had had a serious brain injury. She didn’t want another surgery. She didn’t want them cutting into her brain again. It was a scary thought and she wasn’t going to gamble with her health.

She decided to put herself and her health FIRST and choose to recover in Scottsdale. George said he would pay for it, but God had already taken care of it.

Hosetta’s mother was a true witness of God and his love. All that George had done and said to her, she had kept silence and had not retaliated in any way. Hosetta SAW her mother’s love vividly. As disrespectful and dishonorable as George had been to her, Hosetta’s mother refused to let his behavior provoke her to do anything that would upset her daughter.

Her mother was another reason she needed to recover in Arizona. Her mother was not going to leave her in that stressful situation, especially after she witnessed George’s unrestrained arguments with her.

If this ship went down, and Hosetta was on it, her mother was going down with it. Her mother's love MOVED her heart to tears and she was ever so thankful for the way it was embracing her at this critical time in her life! She whispered a many mornings: Thank you God for my mother's love. She had to think about her mother’s safety and health too. It was TIME to GO!

A few weeks later George said it was a good thing she left and took her mother because, “... I was tempted to throw her ass down the steps...”

IN APRIL OF 2015, IT WASN’T WHAT GEORGE SAID OR SO MUCH WHAT HE DID, BUT IT WAS WHO HE HAD “BECOME” THAT BROKE THE CAMEL’S BACK.

Hosetta didn't imagine George's conduct. She witnessed, his conduct, with her own eyes and the bible helped her SEE it crystal clear.“…Ye shall know them by their fruits…” (Matthew 7:16 KJV).“... EVERYONE (NO EXCEPTIONS) who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness ... the one who practices sin is of the devil ... No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. By this the children of God and the children of the devil are OBVIOUS: anyone (NO EXCEPTIONS, not even George) who does not practice righteousness is not of GOD...” (1 John 3:7-10 NASB).
